Electrical measurements
The winding of an electric motor is the heart of the device. Ensuring it functions properly is vital. We carry out measurements to ensure device reliability and accessibility.

Winding conditions
Besides mechanical monitoring with readings, Van Meer can also map the electrical condition of electric motors.

Portable surge testing equipment for low voltage electric motors
The portable surge tester generates a high voltage pulse across both motor windings. Pulse waves are displayed on an oscilloscope and should be exactly the same. This is the case when only one wave is visible; the waves are then superimposed precisely. If two waves are visible which are different in shape and size, this means there is an error in one of the measured sections. Surge testing increases device reliability, which in combination with a vibration reading improves the overall reliability of equipment.
A measurement analysis can identify the following machine faults, among others;
-
Winding damage
-
Damage to the stator core
-

Portable high voltage equipment for high-voltage electric motors
The Life Expectancy Analysis Program (LEAP) is a diagnostic tool to evaluate the insulation of stator windings for medium- and high-voltage electrical devices. LEAP provides data on the condition and life expectancy of a stator winding and optimises machine maintenance scheduling. By combining LEAP with time estimates for repairs and parts replacement, it is possible to schedule maintenance during planned machine downtime, thus avoiding costly emergency repairs.

LEAP goes a step further than traditional performance monitoring programmes for medium- and high-voltage rotary devices. LEAP analyses test results, providing detailed information on the remaining life expectancy of a stator winding.
These measurements can be carried out on site and include the following;

DC measurements
Polarisation - Depolarisation Current (PDC) Analysis. In addition to data regarding power loss and absorption current, the PDC test provides:
-
An indication of a device's load storage and its location.
-
A view of contamination, even where IW and PI values are 'acceptable'.
-
A correct representation of the winding insulation condition (e.g. ageing, looseness).

AC Current Measurements
A non-linear behavior analysis, tangent and capacitance analysis, and partial discharge analysis confirm DC measurement results.
-
Evaluation of the corona shield condition.
-
Determination of the degree of delamination or pore volume in terms of the percentage of airflow discharge volume in relation to the insulation volume.
-
Assessment of the condition of the stress classification system in the stator grooves.
-
Clarification of the effects of ageing.
